Fertilizer instituteThe annual 4R Summit will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from June 14-15.  This summit is sponsored by The Fertilizer Institute and offers a learning opportunity for those interested in nutrient management and stewardship.  Stakeholders, including growers, retailers, government partners, researchers and other professionals will present about the 4R Nutrient Stewardship program.

“As environmental concerns and the demand for food continue to grow, so does our understanding of the best agricultural practices needed to overcome these challenges,” said Chris Jahn, TFI President. “I encourage those who are interested in how the fertilizer industry is working with stakeholders to improve nutrient stewardship, increase agricultural productivity, and minimize impact to the environment to attend this year’s summit.”

This year’s summit will showcase the broad range of work occurring around the implementation of the 4R principles. Participants will hear from speakers about in-field implementation of the 4R principles, agribusiness involvement, government- and non-governmental organization-supported initiatives, and details on projects funded through the 4R Research Fund. The schedule this year will also feature concurrent breakout sessions, offering participants a choice of speakers and topics.

Fertilizer is a component of sustainable crop production systems, and the fertilizer industry recognizes the need to efficiently utilize these nutrients. The 4R philosophy is an innovative and science-based approach that offers enhanced environmental protection, increased production, increased farmer profitability, and improved sustainability. The concept is to use the right fertilizer source, at the right rate, at the right time, with the right placement.

Registration, the summit agenda and hotel reservation information for the Hilton Indianapolis can be found online.  A group rate is available.  The summit is held in collaboration with the International Plant Nutrition Institute, the International Fertilizer Industry Association, and the Fertilizer Canada to advance the 4R nutrient stewardship initiative.
