In an effort to help farmers realize the environmental advantages of precision nutrient placement, Environmental Tillage Systems (ETS) is partnering with the 4R Stewardship Program, a science-based approach that offers enhanced environmental protection, increased production increased farmer profitability and improved sustainability. The program is founded on the concept of using the 4 “Rs”: right fertilizer source, at the right rate, during the right time, with the right placement.

“We are excited to support the 4R program,” said Brent Brueland, ETS vice president of sales and marketing. “Our sole mission at ETS is to help farmers apply nutrients in a responsible way, help them enhance their soil productivity, and do so in an economical manner.”

The nutrient stewardship program was developed by The Nature Conservancy, who also offers a certification as part of the initiative. “Getting nutrients in the field at the right time and in the right place is difficult,” said Carrie Vollmer-Sanders, nutrient strategy manager for the North America Agriculture program at The Nature Conservancy. “It is great to see companies committed to the 4Rs get the timing and placement right. Implementing the 4Rs of nutrient stewardship is essential to growing more food and keeping our waters clean.”

ETS CEO Kevin Born, a cash crop farmer with a background in agronomy who utilizes the SoilWarrior on his family’s farming operation, added, “Our SoilWarrior product line takes a leadership role in accomplishing the goals of 4R nutrient stewardship.
