Galen Lee is This Week’s SMART Farmer

Kelly MarshallPodcast, SMART Farmer

Galen Lee’s family has been farming the same piece of ground since the turn of the last century and it’s SMART farming and technology that will allow his family to continue working on that same piece of land in the future, he explains in this week’s edition of the SMART Farmer Podcast.

Galen raises sugar beets, asparagus, and peppermint along with dairy and beef cattle on his farm in southwest Idaho.   You can hear him discuss the process of raising sugarbeets and making sugar and how biotech varieties have made that process more sustainable and how he raises peppermint for the oil that is used in things like gum, candy and toothpaste! Galen is president of the American Sugarbeet Growers Association and a board member of the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance.
