national-farmers-union-logoSustainability continues to be a key initiative among farmers around the world. The National Farmers Union (NFU) has joined Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, an initiative to unite the agricultural supply chain in defining, measuring and advancing the sustainability of agriculture production in the United States. Just last week Cool Planet announced its support of the program as well.

“For the 200,000 family farm and ranch members of NFU, sustainability is essential to producing food, fiber and fuel for the world’s consumers. Field to Market’s collaborative approach to science-based sustainable agriculture programs and communications aligns with our objectives as a farmer-led organization,” said NFU President Roger Johnson. “As a member of Field to Market, I am pleased to unite with our new partners to achieve the common goals of production efficiency, environmental quality and food security.”

The program provides a platform to benchmark sustainability performance, catalyze continuous improvement and enable supply chain sustainability claims. Specifically, Field to Market provides measurement tools and resources that allow growers and the supply chain to track and promote continuous improvement.

“We are pleased to welcome the National Farmers Union to Field to Market,” added Rod Snyder, president of Field to Market. “We look forward to working together to help farmers evaluate and improve their sustainability and to better communicate their progress to the supply chain consumers.”
